The self-sabotage of Identity Creation
Throughout my life, I have wondered and questioned who and what I want to become ad nauseam. Do I want to be a scientist, a programmer, an engineer, a biologist, ...?
This always resulted in a certain degree of inner conflict. As if there is a self deep within me that actively resists being categorized in any way, shape or form.
Just now I realized more clearly than before that it doesn't matter who or what you want to become. The focus of the question is all wrong. Every vision of oneself is an illusion because we are and have limitless potential, always outgrowing the boxes we find ourselves in and the labels on them.
What matters is the work you want to do in this world. If you have a vision for that, that's what's important. And it will only take a moment of clarity to receive such a vision.
All that remains is to do the work to the best of your ability.
